General Questions
Q: Why did you move away from building a physical smartwatch?
A: In 2024, we developed a Bitcoin-integrated smartwatch prototype. But manufacturing constraints, tech limitations, and centralised market dominance made physical production unscalable. Rather than compromise our standards, we pivoted toward something bolder — a timeless, purely on-chain watch that embraces Bitcoin’s permanence and collector culture.
Q: What is OWC Evolution?
A: OWC Evolution is the world’s first evolving, fully on-chain digital watch collection. Each watch is inscribed directly onto the Bitcoin blockchain using Ordinals and anchored to a rare satoshi. It’s a timepiece that lives and changes with you — forever preserved in code.
Q: How is this different from an NFT?
A: OWC Evolution watches are not NFTs. They are native to Bitcoin via the Ordinals protocol. No smart contracts, no off-chain metadata, no third-party servers. Every element — from design to upgrades — is stored permanently on-chain.
Q: Can I wear the watch physically?
A: No. OWC Evolution is a digital-first timepiece. It exists fully on Bitcoin, designed to be viewed across devices, displayed through our collector app, and eventually integrated into smart displays, AR, or wearable layers. This is a collectible for the digital age — designed for presence, not wrists.
Q: What are rare sats, and why do they matter?
A: Rare sats are special satoshis with historical, numeric, or symbolic significance. Examples include Nakamoto sats, Pizza sats, and palindromes. Each OWC Evolution watch is inscribed on a rare sat, turning the sat itself into the foundation of your watch — a unique, collectible artefact with built-in provenance.
Q: What is a re-inscription event?
A: A reinscription event is a scheduled opportunity for Evolution holders to optionally upgrade their watch. You may choose to update the dial colour, strap style, bezel type, or even add complications like a moon phase or chronograph. Every change is permanent, inscribed on-chain, and adds to your watch’s visual history. You can also skip events and preserve your watch as originally minted.
Q: Do I need to re-inscribe my watch?
A: Not at all. Reinscription is 100% optional. Some collectors choose to evolve their watches with every event. Others prefer to keep theirs pure and untouched — creating organic rarity through restraint. The choice is yours.
Q: Can I see other people’s watches?
A: Yes. We’re launching a Collector Gallery to showcase the unique journeys of each Evolution timepiece. You’ll be able to browse builds, see re-inscription paths, and explore how others have styled their watches over time.
Q: How do I mint a watch?
A: Minting will be available through a whitelisted process. Each Evolution watch is tied to a rare satoshi and assigned via Ordinal inscription. More details will be announced closer to the public mint. Stay tuned via Twitter or subscribe to our updates.
Q: Will there be collaborations or limited editions?
A: Yes. Future reinscription events may include artist-designed dials, themed capsule collections, or unique visual modes (e.g. glitch states or limited finishes). These will be announced in advance and are only available for a short time during each event.
